Joby and I had talked about starting to potty train Dakota at about 18 months. I had planned on reading up on it and figuring out how to start the whole process. However, things got moved up a month! Joby's parents came into town to babysit Trae. Grammy asked Trae if he needed to go potty so I got out the Elmo potty (at least I had that already..thank you Grammy) and Trae sat on it just long enough for Dakota to see him do it. I had just changed Dakota's diaper so I almost didn't even mess with it but Dakota was very interested in the Elmo potty. So I sat him down and sure enough he went! We were so excited and cheered. Later, he followed Grammy to the bathroom so she sat him on his potty and he went again! We got results just about every time we sat him down and he knew how and what to push every time. It lasted about a week and then he wasn't as interested anymore. Bring on the M&M's! It took awhile for him to get that he had to show results before he got the candy but it has helped! We try first thing in morning, after naps, and before bed (sometimes more than that). He thinks it's really funny to jump up off the potty and run off to pee in the floor somewhere! We've had our days of no success and I don't push it at all. I don't want him to hate it so if he throws a fit, we don't worry about the potty chair. For the most part he still goes when we sit him on it. Now if he can just tell me when he needs to go!
Never a bad time to talk on the phone :) We have to distract him with whatever we can find!
