Cry It Out

Well we finally did it! We tried the cry it out method. Dakota has not been sleeping good at all lately and kept waking up every three hours, sometimes two. Against all good advice, we would always go get him and rock him back to sleep or I'd even feed him so that we could get to sleep faster! We finally decided that it was time....we were tired and ready for sleep. The first night he woke up and it took only 40 minutes to go back to sleep. That sounds like a long time but we were expecting 2 hours! So we were very excited with 40 minutes. He actually got quiet after a couple of minutes but of course cried out more. We took turns going in every 5 minutes to comfort him (well try to comfort) and then in after ten minutes. The next night only took about 5 minutes but he was up at about 5:30 ready to play. The next night was a little harder. He cried out for about 15 minutes. It was so tempting to pick him up with those poor little tears running down his face but we stayed strong. The last couple of nights have only taken him about 5 minutes to get back to sleep. Though it hasn't been easy listening to my baby scream and say mamama....I have to say it hasn't been near as hard as I had expected! Let's just pray it keeps getting even better!

OK, I NEED help with this one!!! Ryland is waking up that often too and I always go in and rock or nurse her and I am getting really tired of it. We hate the idea of crying it out, going in every 5 mins or so.... that sounds a little better. Is that the Ferber method?

I know it is hard, hearing him cry, and you want to comfort him. But It is the best and only way to do it, and you will be glad you did once he is sleeping all night. My middle child did not sleep all night for a year. I got up and fed her and rocked her and put her back to bed for a year because I could not bring myself to listen to the crying. Then with the 3rd child, I let him cry. It was not easy, but it did not take very many nights and he slept all night.
You can do this, stick with it and in the morning, he won't remember and he will not be mad at you either.
